Greetings!
My stage name is Awedaycious D. Those of you that grew up with me may know me by my government name, Deryl S. Lampkin or my childhood nickname "Poochy".
I am an individual endowed with various skills, gifts, and talents. In order for me to keep up with my different roles, I assign different names to my different roles and characters. As my new journey unfolds as a writer, producer, vocalist/rapper, author, and spiritual teacher; some of my other aliases will emerge to distinguish those diverse roles.
Where Am I From?
I am a native of Miami, Florida. That is what we tell people when we want to impress them. But in actuality, I was born and raised in a typical ghetto-like black community called West Perrine. Many successful people particularly artists and sports figures have risen to fortune and fame from such humble beginnings. It is not the land that makes the man, but rather, the DECISION to Actively, Consistently, and Tenaciously, pursue your VISION.
Someone may ask, "Can ANYTHING good come out of Perrine???" The answer is yes!!! As a matter of fact, there is a national gospel magazine called Gospel USA Magazine that has earned many awards and accolades for being one of the top gospel magazines in the country. The owner and publisher is none other than Cecil L. Brown.
Cecil was born and raised right here in West Perrine and still lives here. Of course, he has moved on up to the east side and finally got himself a piece of the pie. Cecil and I go back, wayyyy back. Almost back in times of the Troglodytes.
Incidentally, Cecil was the manager and booking agent of the first band I ever put together. That band was called "The New Breed Band". In future posts, I will be sharing more about my band career chronology and other stories detailing my past, present, and future. Stay tuned and stay connected!
